The Carpentries Community elects Prof. Dr. Konrad Förstner to the Executive Council

The committee, to which the Head of Information Services at ZB MED now belongs, will assume responsibility of governance from the current Executive Council in February 2020.

The Executive Council is made up of nine people; four of them are elected by the community, five others are appointed by the respective council. Konrad Förstner, Head of Data Science and Services at ZB MED, is one of the elected representatives who will serve on the Council for the next two years.

The Carpentries are a diverse, global community of volunteers who develop and conduct workshops to teach data literacy and programming skills. The goal is to create fundamental knowledge to be able to use software and data in daily work. The Carpentries Executive Council is the highest leadership body. It is responsible for strategic and organizational planning, selecting the Executive Director and evaluating their performance, financial oversight, identifying revenue streams and resource development, approving and monitoring programs and services, and enhancing public image. Members of the council also serve as advocates and ambassadors for the organization, leveraging their networks to benefit the project’s reputation and fundraising.
