Please make your inter-library loan requests through LIVIVO or DigiBib
- Charges: handling fee of € 1.50 per request (payable whether the request is successful or not)
- Delivery time: usually 1–2 weeks
- When your item arrives, we will notify you by e-mail at no extra charge
- You can collect your items from the issue desk at ZB MED's Cologne site.

If your inter-library loan request cannot be filled in Germany, we can also request items through the international inter-library loan system. This only applies to articles and media that are not stocked by ZB MED.
Before making an inter-library loan request, please run a search on our LIVIVO platform to check whether ZB MED has the item on stock.

If there is no "See ZB MED holdings" tab under the item you are looking for, please click the "Order with fees" tab and than click on "Inter-library loan to ZB MED (via DigiBib)".
The DigiBib order form will now open in your browser. DigiBib is the inter-library loan service run by the North Rhine-Westphalia Library Service Center. The details of the item you wish to order will automatically be copied from LIVIVO.
Next, click on the "Order" button and log in with your library card number and your 8-digit PIN number.
Fill out the mandatory fields marked with an asterik (*), including your choices about potentially accepting other options and making a reservation if necessary.
Once you have completed all the fields, confirm your request by clicking "Order".
Each time you submit a request, your library account will automatically be charched € 1.50. Note that this fee is payable regardless of whether the order is successful or not.
You can also make inter-library loan requests directly through the North Rhine-Westphalian library Service Center (DigiBib).
Items that cost less than € 15 in bookshops cannot usually be ordered through the the inter-library loan system.
Inter-library loan service at ZB MED
National
The ZB MED supplies copies, books and media from its own holdings within the framework of the national inter-library loan system. Please submit your request to your local library's reference desk or inter-library loans desk.
Orders that include an item and supplementary material are generally handeled as if they were separate items (i.e. in the same way as an order for multiple items). That means fees will be applied for each individual order.
International
NLM service
ZB MED can order articles from the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) in Bethesda, Md.
If you would like to use this service, please send an e-mail with the following content to fernleihe@zbmed.de:
- Subject: NLM Service
- Bibliographic information
- Confirmation of payment of €16 against invoice.
Orders that include one article plus supplementary material will be processed as multiple orders. In these cases, fees will be charged for each individual order.
Before an order is placed with NLM, it is checked against our inventory.
The delivered articles are checked for completeness and quality and sent to the ordering library by mail within a few days.
In the case of documents that cannot be procured, no costs are incurred; notification is sent by e-mail.
