Self-service area
You will find the shelf with your earmarked and ordered books in the reading room/EG directly o the right on the shelf. You can pick up and borrow these books during the opening hours of the reading rooms.
This does not apply to interlibrary loans, special formats and CDs.

Open shelving
- A selection of key manuals, compendiums and textbooks (ground floor reading room)

- Dictionaries and encyclopaedias (ground floor reading room)
- Books acquired by the library since 2013 (ground floor reading room)
- Patient reference materials (ground floor reading room)
Books acquired up to 2012, bibliographies, theses and postdoctoral ("Habilitation") theses are not available in open shelving but can be ordered through LIVIVO.
Reference stacks
The reference stacks include handbooks, manuals and journals. These items can only be used in the reading room. Please return them to the correct shelves after use. These items are always available because they cannot be taken out on loan.
Orders magazine articels Königswinter
The following magazines are located at our magazine location in Königswinter:
- U, Se, Zs.B and Zs.A 6000 and above by 2021
- Zs.A 1-5999 until 1994
Please order your required magazine articles using the online order form
You will receive your ordered item in paper at our lending counter from Mondy to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cologne location.
We will inform you as soon as the item is ready for you to pick up.

This is a free service for users with a ZB MED library card. The availability of copies cannot always be guaranteed in a timely manner. If you need your item within three working days, you can use our paid ordering service via Subito.

The call numbers Zs.A 1 to Zs.A 5999 are freely accessible in the reading rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors.
To scan the items you need, please use our scanners, which you can find on every floor. For this you need a USB stick. In the reading room/ground floor you have the option of printing out the articels saved on the USB stick.
