Quality measures for the evaluation of medical research (subproject: text and patent analyses)
The QuaMedFo research group was seeking to develop metrics for evaluating medical research and impact factors. Divided into seven work packages, the project was designed to analyse various data sources with regard to their suitability as metrics and their practical usability in different evaluation contexts. The overall goal was to determine the potential and robustness of altmetrics for measuring relevance and performance in the medical arena.
The project offered both theoretical and practical benefits for the ongoing debate on the evaluation of scientific performance in different evaluation contexts. In addition, the project findings help improve research information systems and performance-based funding allocation as well as potentially opening up avenues for the further development of the RCD standard beyond the field of medicine. The project team also aimed to highlight options for the further development of dissemination strategies.
