Base4NFDI: RDMTraining4NFDI

Research Data Management Training for the German National Research Data Infrastructure

Effective research data management (RDM) is crucial to the success of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). A key aspect of RDM is ensuring that data, metadata, software and machine learning models are processed and handled in accordance with FAIR principles and Open Science practices.

The RDMTraining4NFDI project aims to establish a basic service for professional training and development in the field of research data management: This will include:

  • Development of modular teaching materials and didactic concepts for discipline-specific training programmes
  • Introduction of training formats including a series of online workshops and a summer school for data stewards and trainers within the NFDI
  • Creation of an NFDI certification framework to document the RDM skills acquired from such training
  • Establishment of a communication network for RDM training experts

The training materials will be made available as open educational resources (OER) and published in public repositories as well as on the DALIA platform. Subsequent phases will develop additional formats, establish content creation workflows and implement an accreditation process.

These measures are designed to enhance the efficiency and quality of RDM training in NFDI consortia while promoting FAIR principles and Open Science practices.

ZB MED’s role in the project

  • Develop training materials and open educational resources for RDM training
  • Carry out various types of training for data stewards and trainers
  • Develop a certification framework and qualification standards for data stewards
  • Build communities and create a network for trainers and data stewards within the NFDI
  • Perform quality assurance and evaluation of training measures, including comparative analyses of the various training formats to optimise content
  • Act as consortium spokesperson
