Data competence centre for the interprofessional use of health data in the Ruhr metropolitan region
The healthcare sector is generating ever-larger quantities of data. While several initiatives have already been launched to support the collection and processing of this data for inpatient care, little attention has so far been paid to data-driven research into outpatient care. Extending the appropriate and effective use of data to outpatient settings requires new interdisciplinary skills. This is the core focus of the DIM.RUHR project.
DIM.RUHR aims to strengthen interprofessional data competency in the outpatient domain and make the data usable for research purposes. To enhance the data literacy of caregivers and researchers, the project team will introduce a range of activities including teaching, research and networking opportunities. The team will also strive to improve the quality of data generation, storage, dissemination, and use. The long-term goal is to boost knowledge in the healthcare sector and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care by promoting a more professional and skilled use of high-quality health data.
To build a strong alliance between research, care and clinical practice, DIM.RUHR will create experimental spaces where learners can try out data-generating systems and engage in hands-on activities with existing datasets. A key part of the project is the GesundheitsDatenRepository.RUHR, a health data repository that will offer access to data for care-related research topics and facilitate its distribution and reuse.
ZB MED’s role in the project
ZB MED is working with other partners in the project to develop open educational resources (OERs) for key stakeholders in healthcare research. In addition, it will create certified programmes that build on the experience gained through the NRW Certificate Course in Research Data Management, in which ZB MED also participates. ZB MED will also bridge the divide between regional and national research through its involvement in Germany’s National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), particularly its participation in NFDI4Health, the consortium for personal health data.
