The success of cancer treatment had been stagnating over the past decades, but very recently, the combination of new scientific insights and personalized medicine has resulted in encouraging signs towards improved patient outcome. The 9th International Symposium 'Physics of Cancer' will highlight the latest developments in biophysical sciences that have contributed to this positive trend. Among them are a better understanding of the physical tumor microenvironment, of mechanical cell-matrix interaction and mechano-chemical signal transduction processes, and how they contribute to aberrant gene regulation. Two focus topics for this year’s symposium are physical principles that govern the action of immune cells, and the connection between cancer, embryogenesis and cell differentiation.
As in the past years, it is our mission to foster the interdisciplinary exchange between leading experts and young scientists alike in this newly emerging research area at the interface between physics and cancer research. The limited number of participants (100-120 scientists and students), renowned invited speakers and the eclectic venue Leipzig will guarantee for a very stimulating atmosphere.
Topics Included
Biomechanics (Biopolymers, Networks, Rheology, Cytoskeleton, Cell Shape) Forces, Motion, Adhesion (Cell Motility, Assembly, Molecular Motors, Cell Division) Oncology Imaging
